Chemical risk management – What is the role of the essential use concept under reach authorisation and restriction?

4 July @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am UTC+0

The European Commission adopted the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) in 2020 to achieve zero pollution under the European Green Deal. The CSS aims to protect people and the environment while promoting safe and sustainable chemical development. Concerns about the health and environmental impacts of chemicals in everyday products have driven the need for this strategy. With global chemicals in everyday products have driven the need for this strategy. With global chemical production expected to double by 2030, the use of chemicals, including in consumer goods, will increase significantly. The EU plans to reform the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) to ban the most harmful substances from consumer products, allowing their use only when essential (Essential Use Concept or EUC). The EUROACTIV Virtual Conference offers an opportunity to discuss the CSS,EUS, and their achievements, impact on innovation, improved regulation, and broader policy objectives.
